Inpatient Discharges

The Consortium's Inpatient Discharge Database contains detailed information about over 800,000 Massachusetts Hospital discharges.  Currently, our most recent data is for Fiscal Year 2008 (October 2007 - September 2008).   Inpatient Discharge data is collected by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and is provided in Microsoft Access format. 

The database is comprised of 3 tables: the Discharges, Accomodations and Ancilliaries tables.  The Discharge table contains the most typical information about a discharge, such as the patient's age, sex, the hospital id, and their diagnoses, procedures, and DRGs.  Accomodations contains more detailed information regarding the type of accomodations that were utilized; while Ancillaries details the other types of services and charges the patient incurred.  In addition, each database contains a number of lookup tables for data elements such as Hospitals, Payors, DRGs, and ICD9 Codes.
